Summon the bravery to create a life that brings more contentment and connection.  The Knights of the Roundtable set off on their quest entering the forest where each knight thought the woods appeared the darkest. Myths are filled with tales of valuable things being found where heroes fear to look.  Therapy can include confronting the past, building the future, or mindfully existing in the present moment.  It may involve analysis, learning, and skills building.  It will require honesty, perseverance, and bravery.  I am your helper and advocate in examining mental health, substance abuse, and relationship issues.

The bad news is that wishful thinking will never bring about the change you need.  No one is coming to rescue you.  Summoning virtue is the only way forward to find meaning and purpose in hardship.  We will set measurable goals and proceed with a singular focus on finding solutions.

Clients often say they feel accepted and heard when they start therapy with me.  The goal is to build trust so we can summon the courage to tackle important topics.  We will talk about deep, analytical topics, explore new ideas about the brain, and seek to find purpose and meaning along the way.  I have developed a telehealth method including videos, multi-media presentations, and bridging the telehealth technology distance.  I offer face-to-face sessions in Traverse City.  I have over 20 years of experience as a social worker across urban, suburban, and rural regions of Michigan.  I have felt blessed to have been able to work with people from so many different places, ages, and lifestyles.  I’m not a miracle worker, but I am a hard worker.

I am a lifetime resident of Michigan growing up in the rural Thumb region before moving to Detroit for graduate school (Wayne State University, 2003, Master of Social Work), starting a family, and the first half of my clinical career.  Now, I live and work in Traverse City where my focus is dominated by my gray and white cat Simo, outdoor activities with my wife, and raising sons.
